Troubleshoot / Recover USB PEN drive or Memory card

Scenario / Problem:

"USB / Pen drive gets detected but unable to Open/access it "

OR

"pendrive cannot be formatted and i cannot access my pen drive"

Details:
When the USB / Flash Drive is inserted into the system it gets detected and you can notice a small green icon in the system tray as well.However, The drive is visible in the windows explorer / My Computer ( Example as an F:\ drive )It is displayed as a removable Disk Drive. Won't let you format.

When you try to acess / open the USB /Pen Drive in "My computer" it displays the following message: "Please insert removable disk in to the drive" ,but the drive would be already inserted.
When you try to reformat it says "There is no disk in drive F:\. Insert a disk and try again".

Solution:

Note: Use this as a last restore as this will erase your Pen Drive/Memory card - All data will be lost.
I was able to restore my corrupted 4GB USB / PEN drive by following the below steps:

• start > right click " My Computer" > choose "Manage".
• In the "Computer Management" window, choose "Disk Management" option on the right side of the window. Now you can see the USB / Pen drive on the right side.
• Right click on the pen drive and choose new volume and complete the new volume wizard using the default values.

Once the format is completed the USB drive will be accessible from "My Computer"/Explorer.

Note:
However if you want to recover deleted files ( Even if your USB is formatted), you can use a Data Recovery software to recover the files.
You can google for " Freeware + data recovery software" to get the latest info on the tools available using which you can try to recover the deleted files from your memory card / USB drive.

For Example:

You can try this freeware tool - "Pandora Recovery", and recover most of the files.

I accidentally formatted my memory card and was able to successfully recover most of the files.)
